What is chemical genomics?
Chemical genomics is the "the development of target-specific chemical ligands and the use of such chemical ligands to globally study gene and protein functions" [1]. This is done through the use of drug treatment and protein analysis.
ALD Chemical Genomics
Zebrafish will be used in this process. ABCD1 mutants will be created using CRispr. There are no drug treatments for this disease, so chemicals from chemical library will be be administered to these mutants. Different chemicals will be given to different groups. The mutants will be monitored to see if there is a change in the phenotype. Those that seem to have a benefit will be chosen and examined.
Conclusion
As of March 2020, there are no drugs associated with ALD. This is something that can be looked at with zebrafish studies in the future.
